A journey through the Merrill Valley

Of all Middle-earth locations it is Rivendell that has always held the greatest appeal for me. This is my personal journey, exploring not only the situation of Elrond's House but the full length of the Merrill Valley - but you are welcome to come along!

Project description

Based on a nine month expedition by Martin Baker, this project aims to create a 3D computer model encompassing the length and breadth of the Merrill (Rivendell) valley.

The model will enable snapshots and (eventually) a 'virtual reality' tour of key regions, including Imladris itself, the major waterfalls and the awe-inspiring Merrill Gorge.

The computer model itself is supported by extensive documentation of the valley system's defenses, geology, climate, flora and fauna.

A variety of PC-based approaches have been used to date. Initial layouts using Bryce 2 and VistaPro 3 have been superceded by the remarkable landscape application World Contruction Set V3.

The project is also being carried forward through the medium of story-telling based on 'travelog' journal entries.
